The Millennium Milsons Point upgrade was a main switchboard replacement and electrical infrastructure upgrade delivered by DM Electrical for DCE Contracting, completed within a critical 16-hour shutdown. DM Electrical replaced the building's ageing main switchboard and incoming supply infrastructure, mirroring the existing configuration while adding significant safety and compliance improvements.
The site is supplied via two separate network connections: a 1600A primary supply and a 400A secondary supply from Ausgrid substations. After a detailed assessment of the existing installation, DM Electrical developed a replacement strategy that mirrored the existing switchboard configuration while adding significant safety and compliance improvements.
A key part of the upgrade was installing new Service Protection Devices (SPDs) on all incoming supplies to meet current Ausgrid requirements, the NSW Service and Installation Rules, and the relevant Australian Standards. The new custom-designed main switchboard kept the existing distribution arrangement while improving reliability, safety, and serviceability.
DM Electrical managed the project from initial design through to completion, including engineering design, Ausgrid applications, approvals, outage coordination, switchboard procurement, installation, testing, and commissioning. Extensive planning was required to deliver the works within a tightly controlled 16-hour shutdown window while keeping residents, tenants, and project personnel safe.
The building comprises roughly 80 residential apartments and four ground-floor commercial tenancies, so stakeholder communication and outage management were critical. Because of the size of the replacement switchboard, complex access arrangements were needed. Existing bollards, walls, and sections of the sprinkler system were temporarily removed to allow safe removal of the end-of-life switchboard and installation of the new equipment within the existing switchroom.
Through careful planning, detailed logistics management, and close coordination with Ausgrid and building stakeholders, DM Electrical completed the upgrade within the allocated shutdown period, delivering a modern, compliant electrical infrastructure solution.
SPDs protect the incoming supply and are required under current Ausgrid rules and the NSW Service and Installation Rules. DM Electrical installed new SPDs on all incoming supplies as part of the Millennium upgrade.
Existing bollards, walls, and sections of the sprinkler system were temporarily removed to allow safe removal of the end-of-life switchboard and installation of the new equipment within the existing switchroom.
The major infrastructure works were completed within a tightly controlled 16-hour shutdown window, planned to keep residents, tenants, and personnel safe.
